I knew when I started this that I would be TERRIBLE at keeping up with it.......8 months later....
Good thing we are not all that exciting :)!
Quick Recap of the Past 8 Months:
Summer - Brian spent the summer taking 2 classes towards his Ph.D at the University of MD. He was at class M-Th for most of the summer. I spent most of my time at the gym and cleaning out the house. At the end of July we spent a long weekend at my Aunt and Uncle's condo in Sarasota, FL (This was our 1 escape from MD).
In August, my sister Janelle moved in with us. She graduated from Lafayette College in May and landed an AWESOME job at Johns Hopkins doing lupus research. Janelle brought her kitten Oliver with her, so now we are a 2 dog/2 cat household.
Fall/Winter - Work and school started back up.....I can't believe that this is our 4th year living and working in Baltimore! Brian took 2 classes at UMCP and also picked up a few more students at the community college. Because of his hectic schedule , I only really saw him on the weekends. The Friday before Labor Day I fell and fractures my tailbone. It put e out of commission for a few months (I went to work for 2 weeks with it before I stopped being stubborn and went to the doctor) - no gym, no lifting, no sitting unless I had my ring.......It was very painful! I am still recovering, but it is significantly better!
The Urban Music Leadership Conference was held in Baltimore this past October. Brian, myself, and 2 other teachers were in charge of putting the conference together. I took the lead on it and it ended up being "my baby".......it took over my life from July-October! It went off without a hitch!
We decided to stay in Baltimore (this is becoming the norm) for Thanksgiving. We hosted a few friends and had a relaxing weekend! We do miss seeing our families over the holiday, but it is too much travel from 2 days.
Our Annual Holiday Feista was held the weekend on 12/18. This just happened to coincide with the Blizzard of 2009! It was a weekend long event because travel was horrendous and our friends who lived more than a few miles from us didn't venture out. NONE of our friends should have, but most of us are from CNY or MI, so a little snow is nothing to us!
We did go home for Christmas - it had been a year since we last saw Brian's family. We got lucky because we had 3 snow days leading up to break, so we had 2 full weeks off! We left the Wednesday before Christmas and brought Janelle with us. We spent Christmas Eve/morning in Rochester and Christmas Day in Liverpool. We were only in NY until Sunday because Janelle had to work on Monday. It was nice seeing both sides of the family!
My family came down for New Year's. We had a great time! My parents brought our new fireplace down with them and we were able to get it situated in the living room. It looks awesome! We had Julia and Brandon over for New Year's Day dinner and my family left on Saturday afternoon.
I got sick last Sunday (with what turned out to be the flu....not H1N1, but it was still horrible) and left work at 10AM on Monday. I spent Tuesday at the docs and was out of work for the week. I don't remember EVER being this sick in my life! Brian and Janelle were great, and I am just now starting to feel closer to my normal self!!
Up next...Honor Band 2010! The auditions were supposed to be 12/18 and 12/19, but had to be postponed until this weekend. Because of my flu, I am unable to be there. This is KILLING me because I am a co-chair and I missed all of my kids auditions. Brian will be conducting the middle school group and Quincy Hilliard is conducting the high school. This is also Baltimore City's 10 year anniversary with VH1 Save the Music, and we are trying to get Quincy Jones to come down to conduct a combined piece at the concert on 2/13. Brian is VERY excited! Hope is torn tendon gets better before rehearsals start on the 22nd!
Hope this brings everyone up to date!
